The active ingredient ALGAKTIV® Rubinity is derived from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, an organism known for its remarkable ability to adapt to environmental stress. Under extreme conditions such as high UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, and nutrient deficiency, these algae undergo a physiological transformation, shifting from a green vegetative state to a red cyst phase. This transition is characterized by the accumulation of astaxanthin, a potent carotenoid with strong antioxidant and photoprotective properties.
In in vitro studies on fibroblasts, ALGAKTIV®Rubinity demonstrated a significant increase in the synthesis of type I collagen and hyaluronic acid, while simultaneously significantly inhibiting hyaluronidase activity. This combination promotes the stabilization of the extracellular matrix and supports the long-term structural density of the lips. Additional studies on keratinocytes demonstrated a significant increase in intracellular triglycerides. These lipids serve as a reservoir for fatty acids, which are essential for ceramide formation and thus for the stabilization of the skin barrier. In parallel, increased expression of VEGF was observed in endothelial cells, indicating improved microcirculation and thus enhanced tissue vitality.
Particularly noteworthy is the immediate effect of ALGAKTIV® Rubinity which has been clinically proven to occur just minutes after application. In a study, a measurable increase in lip volume and a significant improvement in hydration were observed within 15 minutes. This rapid effect is characterized by an immediate improvement in surface moisture and visibly plumped lips.
After 4 hours, this effect continued to intensify, with significantly increased hydration and a stabilized volumizing effect compared to the placebo. This early effect forms the basis for the immediately noticeable “plumping” reaction.
