Product description:

Senescent cells - or zombie cells - are cells that no longer perform their proper functions, especially collagen production, and refuse to die. These cells also lose their function of cell division, hinder tissue regeneration and can also attack neighboring healthy cells.

External factors, such as stress, damage a cell and normally lead to cell death and simultaneous elimination of the cell. This is also the signal for the formation of new cells. If this process is disturbed, a senescent cell is formed and remains in the skin.

With increasing aging, the number of senescent cells increases and the consequence is, among other things, visible aging of the skin. Another characteristic of such cells is the so-called Senescence Associated Secretory Phenotype (=SASP) consisting of inflammatory cytokines, growth factors and proteases. SASP is associated with many age-related diseases, such as type 2 diabtes or atherosclerosis. So, in addition to the visible older skin appearance, senescent cells generally affect our health.

A possible solution against senescent cells is offered by Clariant Active Ingredients latest product Celyscence. It is derived from milk thistle, which has been used as a therapeutic plant for thousands of years. In this case, the flowers are even hand-harvested in South Korea.

Basically, it is thus possible to fight zombie cells in 3 ways: Preventive, Senomorphic and Senolytic. In-Vitro, Clariant investigated exactly these mechanisms.

The preventive mode of action was demonstrated by studying cell duplication. By using Celyscence, cell duplication occurs after only 8 days, while the same process lasts 30 days without Celyscence. The faster cell duplication can thus prevent further cells from becoming senescent.

The senolytic effect induces selective cell death. Celyscence has been shown to reduce the number of senescent cells by 35% and increase apoptosis induction by 11%.

If the cells are not specifically eliminated, but the signals of senescent cells are regulated, especially those of the SASP, this is called a senomorphic effect. In vitro it was shown that different SASP parameters can be reduced up to 103%.

Clinically, Celyscence was tested with 3% against placebo. For this purpose, 30 female volunteers aged 50-60 years were selected and the formulation with Celyscence was applied twice daily to the décolleté, neck and one half of the face.

After 14 days, hydration on the décolleté was already increased by 8.6% (placebo reduction by 12.6%) and IL-1-alpha levels were reduced by 31.1%. On the neck, wrinkles could be visibly reduced.

Celyscence thus helps to reduce senescence cells, repairing and rebuilding aged tissues and thus achieving visible skin tightening.
