Kester Wax K62 is a synthetic ester wax obtained by esterification of long-chain saturated fatty alcohols and fatty acids of vegetable origin. Its composition consists of esters with carbon chain lengths between C32 and C46.

In terms of structure and functionality, Kester Wax K62 is remarkably like jojoba wax, making it an effective and economical synthetic alternative to this natural raw material. It also has similarities to cetyl palmitate (also known as cetyl ester wax), which has a melting point of around 48 °C. Kester Wax K62 has a higher melting point, which can be advantageous in formulations that require improved thermal stability.

Functionally, Kester Wax K62 is used as a consistency agent in both water-in-oil (W/O) and oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, as well as in solid stick formulations. In these applications, it forms a solid, crystalline wax network that thickens the formulation and stabilizes its structure. This network improves oil binding capacity, increases smoothness, supports film formation, and enhances shine and slip.

A remarkable property of Kester Wax K62 is its ability to significantly reduce the greasy skin feel often associated with mineral oil and other hydrocarbon oils, thereby improving the sensory profile of formulations.
