Product description:

PreBIULIN® FOS is a mixture of inulin and fructose from chicory root and Jerusalem artichoke root.

As the first barrier, our skin microbiota is under constant attack from the harsh environment. The delicate balance of our skin microbiota can be disturbed by pollution, excessive UV radiation, household chemicals and aggressive cosmetics. Their only survival equipment is dead corneocytes, sebum and oxidized skin lipids. Sometimes this is simply not enough to cope with the environment.

When this barrier weakens, our skin becomes sensitive, dry, inflamed, itchy and wrinkled: skin ages. A classic cosmetic approach does not take into account the needs of this crucial barrier.

The solution to slow down skin aging and keep skin in a healthy condition is to energize and protect this precious skin microbiota barrier. PreBIULIN® FOS is a scientifically proven prebiotic that makes our skin microbiota and skin more resilient.

Protecting, strengthening and balancing the human skin microbiota is an essential strategy in maintaining the health and beauty of our skin. The PreBIULIN® FOS stabilizes disturbances in the skin microbiota and supports the skin microbiota in cleansing the skin of excess bacteria.

A prebiotic is actually a selective nutritional supplement for our protective and beneficial skin microbiota. Harmful microorganisms cannot metabolize the prebiotic. Thus, the natural skin flora is strengthened and balanced, while the harmful microorganisms are disadvantaged.

The tests in the field of conditioning for hair and skin show similar or better results compared to polyquaternium-10. PreBIULIN® FOS is suitable for a wide range of different cosmetic products due to its multifunctional properties. Furthermore, data was also generated in the area of acne with preBIULIN® FOS. Skin affected by acne is changed at the genetic level that differs from normal skin in terms of the composition of the skin microbiome and gene expression.

Acne-prone skin is characterized by an excess of C. acnes and S. epidermidis, accompanied by a significant reduction in microbial diversity. In contrast, normal skin has a protective gene expression profile that is responsible for the production of vital elements such as vitamin B12, the prevention of blemishes and the repair of the skin barrier. It also controls the upregulation of collagen I and III and the modulation of immune cells.

The genetic expression patterns in acne paint a vivid picture of pathogenic activities, including the production of proteases and lipases that target protein degradation and free fatty acids, respectively. In addition, acne-prone skin shows the dehydrating effect of hyaluronate lyase, the destruction of cell walls through the production of phosphatases, and an overproduction of inflammatory mediators and muscle contraction leading to enlarged pores.

In general, acne goes beyond the superficial appearance of pustules and blackheads; it represents a profound loss of skin protection, hydration, premature skin ageing and a loss of healthy skin tone.

Taking advantage of the bioselective and chemically stable properties of preBIULIN® FOS, Gobiotics' research focuses on its application in the treatment of acne. In rigorous in vivo testing, preBIULIN® FOS was subjected to a rinse-off protocol on the forehead of acne-prone skin and demonstrated a remarkable ability to support and promote the protective microbiome against C. acnes. This is not only consistent with sustainable solutions for acne-prone skin, but it also highlights the role of preBIULIN® FOS in restoring the delicate balance of the skin microbiome.

To delve into the microscopic world of acne-prone skin, Gobiotics uses metagenomics. This is a revolutionary approach that involves analyzing genetic material. Metagenomic analysis can determine which species and in what numbers microbiomes are available. This method reveals the dominant presence of C. acnes and S. epidermidis in acne skin, associated with a suppressed protective microbiome.

Based on the results of the metagenomic analyses, Gobiotics further investigated whether preBIULIN® FOS together with salicylic acid has a positive effect on the skin microbiome and whether it leads to a change in the existing species. For this purpose, the effectiveness of a leave-on cream with preBIULIN® FOS and salicylic acid was examined in a 28-day in vivo test on the forehead. The results show that preBIULIN® FOS not only supports communication within the microbiome, but also increases the total number of microbial species.

In summary, scientific efforts underscore the complicated dynamics of acne at the genetic and microbiotic levels. Here, preBIULIN® FOS is a powerful and versatile ally in promoting skin health, restoration and resilience.
