Product description:

The great feature of KPT's Pearl technology is the possibility of customization, which allows you to convert your own favorite emulsion or gel into a wonderful pearl.

In this case, you retain full control over the ingredients of the formulation and can also determine the optical appearance of the pearl by adding pigments.

Basically, KPT pearls are divided into the following 3 variants:

1) Starpearls (SP series): Soft gel pearls in sizes from 2.5 - 8.5 mm based on an aqueous base.

2) Emulsionpearls (EP-Series): Soft pearls made from a finished O/W emulsion with sizes ranging from 2.5 - 8.5 mm.

3) Dual Layer Pearls (DP series): Soft pearls consisting of an inner oily pearl coated by an aqueous phase. Available in sizes from 2.0 - 5.0 mm.

The only necessary step for the creation of the pearls is to add a special type of Agar to your emulsion or gel. We would provide this special type in case of a Custom Made project and KPT would further inform you about the required quantity after the first lab trials.

Since only agar needs to be added on the part of the manufacturer, this technology can also be used to produce a pearl suitable for certified natural cosmetics, which is another unique selling point of KPT.

As mentioned, there are currently three different types of pearls: emulsion pearls, gel pearls and dual-layer pearls.

The emulsion pearls as the name already indicates are the solution the make pearls out of an oil in water (O/W) emulsion. The main relevance aside from the Agar addition is the viscosity of the base formulation and it might sometimes be necessary for KPT to dilute the base formulation in order to lower the viscosity. This information as well as the final viscosity will of course also be shared with you after the lab trials in order to give you the change to obtain the necessary viscosity more eloquently than by simply adding deionized water.

We are right now not aware of any major incompatibilities as far as the emulsion pearls are concerned and we can basically create a stable pearl as long as your base emulsion is stable. The only recommendation would be to maybe avoid extremely heat sensitive raw materials, because the base emulsion will be heated up to 70°C for a short time during the pearl creation.

The gel pearls (Starpearls) are based on a pure water phase, as the name already indicates, and this technology can therefore work with any kind of ingredient that is water soluble or water dispersible.

The gel as well as the emulsion pearls are soft pearls, which means that we don’t need any content of free water in a surrounding medium, in difference to the traditional visual beads. Gel pearls can as consequence also be used as nicely visible and attractive solution to add a water phase to a lipophilic gel or solution.

The dual layer pearls are last but not least a combination of an oily or liquid crystal pearl in the core, which is further coated with a gel pearl. The combination creates a very special visual appearance and combines water and oil in a one-of-a-kind way.

With the current versions of the emulsion pearls, gel pearls and dual-layer pearls, it is probably no longer mandatory, but the manufacturer still recommends to provide the beads in the final product with a lipophilic or hydrophilic serum to prevent the beads from drying out.

The mixing ratio between pearls and serum should be in the range of 70:30 - 50:50.
